Workshop on the domestication of the Convention on Migrant Workers in The Gambia©
How to make words a reality ? Last year, The Gambia committed to promote and protect the rights of migrants by ratifying the International Convention on the Rights of Migrant Workers (ICRMW).

Following this ratification, the national laws of The Gambia should be put into conformity with the convention. Facilitating this was the purpose of the workshop organised by the Ministry of Justice, ONU Droits de l’Homme - Afrique de l’Ouest, UNODC and the ILO, with the support of UN independent experts from the Committee on Migrant Workers (CMW).

Representatives from government’s ministries, the National Assembly, the Judiciary, civil society organisations and the National Human Rights Commission identified provisions that would need revision. Such process falls into the current legislative reforms that have been taking place since the return of democracy in The Gambia.
